Here is Edward Bear, coming downstairs now, bump, bump, bump, on the back of his head, behind Christopher Robin. It is, as far as he knows, the only way of coming downstairs, but sometimes he feels that there really is another way, if only he could stop bumping for a moment and think of it. And then he feels that perhaps there isn’t. Anyhow, here he is at the bottom, and ready to be introduced to you. Winnie the Pooh.
When I first heard his name, I said, just as you are going to say, ‘but I thought he was a boy?’
‘So did I’, said Christopher Robin.
‘Then you can’t call him Winnie?’
‘I don’t.’
‘But you said ….’
‘He’s Winnie-ther-Pooh. Don’t you know what ‘ther’ means?’
‘Ah, yes, now I do,’ I said quickly; and I hope you do too, because it is all the explanation you are going to get.”
This is our first encounter with Pooh. Children love to see thing upside-down and A.A. Milne knew that very well. Because of his humour and imagination, together with just the right drawings from E.H. Shepard, Pooh is from all of us. And he always will be, forever. You’ll find short biographies of A.A. Milne and E.H. Shepard here.
E.H. Shepard vs Walt Disney
There are two ‘different’ Winnie the Pooh’s: the original drawings by E.H. Shepard and the drawings by Walt Disney. Every version has its own charms and especially for you, we have made three galleries with pictures of Winnie the Pooh, so you can choose for yourself which one you like best. The original black and white pictures, the coloured original pictures or the ever popular Disney pictures.

Computer/console Games
Because he is such a popular character, there are many games with Winnie the Pooh as a protagonist. Many are for small children to learn, for example, to spell and count, but on the next page you’ll find the ‘real’ games.
