Captain Barnacles is the leader of the team: The Octonauts. He always has a plan at the ready, is super strong and is always first in when there is a problem. Besides adventuring, he likes playing the accordion and he writes his captain’s log.
The Octonauts
The Octonauts are a team of undersea explorers in search of adventure and fun. From their base the ‘Octopod’, the crew is always ready to embark on new exciting adventures! If there are problems under the sea, they jump into action to lend a helping hand. In their fleet of aquatic vehicles they rescue amazing sea creatures, explore incredible, new underwater worlds and solve problems before returning to their home base, the Octopod.
The main characters are Captain Barnacles, Lieutenant Kwazii and Doctor Peso. Five more Octonauts play a supporting role: Professor Inklings, Dr Shellington, Tweak, Dashi and Tunip the Vegimal.
The Octonauts use five underwater vehicles, all inspired by sea creatures, the GUP-A to GUP-E. There is also a pedal-powered GUP-F, used by Captain Barnacles and Lieutenant Kwazii.
The opening tune ends with the chant “Explore!, Rescue!, Protect!”, then the adventure begins.
The TV-series
The Octonauts is an animated TV-series for children under 4 years, the series is based on the book by Vicki Wong and Michael Murphy from Meomi. The Octonauts team consists of anthropomorphic animals, animals in human form. Each episode is 10 minutes long in which the team comes in contact with unusual, but real sea creatures in underwater worlds. The first episode was broadcast on the BBC on October 4, 2010.

Kwazii is an ex-pirate with a mysterious past. He loves adventures and travelling to exotic places. His favourite hobbies are long baths, racing in the GUP-B, and general recklessness.
Peso

Peso has great compassion for every animal that is sick or injured, you will rarely see him without his medical kit. He does not like scary things and is not the bravest, but when an animal is in need, he forgets all his fears.
Professor Inklings

Professor Inklings has founded the Octonauts, for research and preservation of the oceans. Because of his delicate brain, he helps the Octonauts from the library in the Octopod.
Dr Shellington

Dr Shellington is the researcher who always has an eye for the new and rare creatures. His vast knowledge of the ocean and its animals often helps the Octonauts when they are in trouble.
Tweak

Tweak is the engineer who makes the engine room run smoothly. She also maintains all GUP’s and makes all kind of gadgets.
Dashi

You can be assured that Dashi takes a snapshot on every adventure Dashi. Furthermore, she oversees and controls the Octopod’s computers and software
Tunip the Vegimal

Tunip is one of the Vegimals that help out around the Octopod. You go see him when you are in need of a Kelp recipe. The Vegimals speak a different language, which only Dr. Shellington understands.
