Biography

Joseph Rudyard KiplingJoseph Rudyard Kipling was a British author and poet, born on 30 December 1865 in India. He has been famous by his book with child tales 'The Jungle Book' (1894), an Indian espionage novel 'Kim' (1901), the poems 'Gunga Din' (1892) and 'If' (1895) and his short stories.

The peak of Kipling's popularity was at the beginning of the twentieth century, in 1907, he got the Nobel Price for literature and he is still the youngest winner ever.

Kipling was born in Bombay and his birth house still stands on the campus of the Sir J.J. Institute of Applied Art in Bombay. His father was John Lockwood Kipling, a teacher to the local Jeejeebhoy school of Art, and his mother was Alice Macdonald.
In that time Kipling mainly wrote for children and published his best known books 'The Jungle Book' and the sequel 'The Second Jungle Book' in 1894, and 1895, Kipling continued writing up to beginning of the 1930's, but his production was less and he had less success than in the beginning. Joseph Rudyard Kipling died seventy years old, on 18 January 1936.


'The Jungle Book' is not one book or novel, but a collection of short stories and poems.
